Information on consulting and booking tattoos with Robyn

— HOW TO SCHEDULE AND MY RATES —

If you are interested in having a tattoo created by me and are ready to start the process then please read the following..

I am strictly by appointment only and do not ever have walk-in time so if you want to get a tattoo by me you have to book an appointment.

My Price Structure

My hourly rate for tattoos that take over an hour is $200.00. I charge by how long your tattoo takes to do and I use a time clock to calculate this during your session. I require new clients and return clients to leave a non-refundable down payment of $200 for tattoos that will take over an hour. Tattoos that are under an hour will require a non-refundable $100 down payment. Your down payment will be subtracted from your total tattoo cost and it covers your consultation, the design preparation and also lets me know you are sincere about getting the tattoo done.
Certain tattoo styles and subject matter will require extra time and often times more than one visit to complete. Expect this if you are wanting any of the following, dotwork shading, extensive linework, multiple color shading, cover-ups, mandalas and geometric patterning. If you are concerned about budgeting for your tattoo please know that you can space your sessions out to best fit your budget, like for example scheduling your appointments every 4, 8 or 10 weeks apart.

I tattoo Tuesday through Friday starting in August 2023

—WHAT I TATTOO AND DO NOT TATTOO—

My tattooing style is primarily focused on illustrative imagery often seen in vintage plant and animal prints. I like using different line widths to create my tattoos as well as dotwork, stipple shading, line hatching and soft blended shading. I enjoy both grey and color tattooing and while I’ll tattoo any color spectrum I especially enjoy using muted earth tone palettes. I am most interested in floral and fauna designs (plants and animals), sacred geometry, mandalas, stylized landscapes, folk art,  ornamental designs, filigree, vintage, antique objects, insects, shells, fossils, skulls, anatomical imagery, monsters, mythical creatures and statues.

I am not a portrait or realism tattooer. My style is very illustrative and I’ll portray most of my tattoo creations with bold outlines, stipple, dot work shading and traditional style color shading. If you are looking for someone to tattoo a photograph of a person or a scenic photo of a landscape that looks like a carbon copy of the original than I am not your artist. I can however, tattoo an animal, human or landscape in my own tattoo style which you can see in my portfolio.

I will only consider taking a cover up if the unwanted design is small to medium size and significantly faded/aged. To be considered I must see a picture of the design but will occasionally require you to show me the tattoo in person. Once I evaluate your cover up I will tell you what kind of tattoo will work to conceal it. Please understand the cover up tattoo will always need to be a larger tattoo than what you are covering as well as be a darker shade/color than what you are covering.
ATTN: Mandalas, geometrics, paisley, lace, henna and/or mehndi designs are not good candidates for cover ups. Imagine that you have a piece of lace fabric and you lay the lace over your unwanted tattoo. The lace has beautiful design but you will see your unwanted tattoo very clearly underneath the lace. The same thing will happen if you use the styles I mentioned in this paragraph as a cover up. I will not accept proposals asking me to cover unwanted tattoos with geometric, mandala, henna, paisley, lace or mehndi style. However, if you want to add this style near the unwanted tattoo I can do that, but you will have to have something different covering over the unwanted tattoo.

If you are inquiring about re-working another artists tattoo or if you want me to add onto another artists work I will need to see the original tattoo before committing to anything. Please do not assume I will want to do this because in truth most tattoo re-works that are presented to me are not in my vein. In saying all this I do not mind if you ask but will be very honest with you if I do not want to do it in the kindest way possible.

No watercolor tattoos. This is any tattoo where you make it look like you splattered color all over it or any tattoo that looks like a watercolor painting. In my opinion this style will not age gracefully and will loose it’s sharpness in as little as two years depending on the size.

I won’t do micro realism tattoos. All tattoos will soften and spread as the wearer ages and although it’s very gradual micro tattoos fall victim to this reality the fastest. When a micro tattoo ages it can be very hard to read in as little as two years.

I will not tattoo your face, inner lip or your ear. My goal as a tattooer is to make tattoos that are attractive, solid and will hold up a long time. None of these areas are good for that.

If you are inquiring about hand or finger tattoos please know that I only tattoo the backside of the hand and prefer to stay away from the knuckles and fingers. Sometimes I will tattoo small and simple symbols on fingers but I’ll need to evaluate your request before I agree to anything. No free touch ups on hands/finger tattoos.

I am okay with black out tattoos but I won’t do a black out tattoo and then tattoo another image on top of the blacked out area.

Regarding tattoos on or near private areas. The studio I work in is well lit and very open with large windows that face a busy street with pedestrians and traffic. All artists work in open booths with absolutely no privacy. I have no way to hide nudity if you request a tattoo on or near a private area. I can only offer a salon style robe and it cannot cover close to the area where I would be tattooing. Most tattoos that I take that fall into this category are the under boob tattoos or areas around the breast. I generally do not wish to take on any type of tattoo where I would be tattooing directly on the genitals.

I use Solid Ink tattoo pigments for my color work and black/grey tattooing. You can read about their certification, tattoo ingredients and procedures here, https://thesolidink.com/pages/msds

—-CONSULTATION INFORMATION—-

Consultations usually only take 5 to 10 minutes and do not require a down payment. To book an appointment you’ll be required to leave a down payment either at your consultation or if no consultation is needed I can accept down payments using an online payment invoice via Mothers Tattoo. This payment is non-refundable so please make sure you are truly ready to get a tattoo. I do not offer refunds under any circumstances so again I stress to make sure you are absolutely certain you are ready to get a tattoo. If an unforeseen event happens that prevents you from getting the tattoo after you’ve made a down payment you have the option to reschedule six months out.

Once the appointment is set you will most likely not hear from me unless I need information from you that pertains to your tattoo. I have a high volume of clients so I draw all my appointments up a day or two and sometimes the day of the actual appointment date. I will not be able to show you a design before your appointment date. People are often put off by this and say, "What if I hate it?" In my 14 years of experience I have never had a client dislike what I've presented to them and my designs usually take them beyond their expectations. If you like most of my portfolio then you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

—- Cancellation and Rescheduling —-

If anything should happen and you cannot get your tattoo please email me and let me know ahead of time. I do understand that certain circumstances can happen in life that might interfere with you getting the tattoo when you want to.  I do not need to know the reason why you are canceling I just want you to tell me that you are canceling ahead of time so that I can find another customer to fill your spot. Down payments are non-refundable no matter what the circumstances. If you cannot get the tattoo after paying your down payment I can reschedule you for a later date even if it’s several months away.

  phone: 859-261-81111 email: nomadical@icloud.com

If you need to reschedule you can do this by emailing me. You must reschedule your tattoo appointment within 6 months of your original appointment date. I allow new clients to reschedule 2 times from the first initial appointment before loosing their down payment. If you are in a situation where you cannot get the tattoo for awhile, then please tell me and do not keep rescheduling. While I won’t refund the down payment I can offer some options that might cater to your situation.

Good To Know and Helpful Tips Before You Book A Tattoo

Planning for a tattoo is an exciting process and I wanted to add some things to think about when you are ready to take the plunge.

If you are starting out with a design that only covers a certain area like for example, the inside of your forearm but you are interested in getting a sleeve then please tell me. Even if you are not ready to book for a sleeve at that time telling me you are considering it will help me guide you on what will look best for placement as a sleeve. Placement and sizing is the key to making a really eye catching sleeve or full body piece! I know people have good intentions when they decide to take their collection further and make it interconnected, but sometimes they end up limiting themselves because they didn’t tell me from the get go that they wanted to get a full section piece.

Try to stick with one artist for the section that you are tattooing. If you get a tattoo on your back for example and decide to add on to it and make a bigger design it’s a good idea to stick with the same artist if they want to do the work or if you still want that artist to work on you. Your tattoo will blend better in style and color and most artists prefer not to add on to another artists work. If you are just collecting small/medium designs like the American traditional style then this doesn’t necessarily apply.

If you book an appointment with me to tattoo a certain area, like your upper arm, PLEASE do not book and get another tattoo near the same area with a different artist until after I finish your tattoo. I’ve had a few clients book with me and while waiting for their appointment to happen they go ahead and get something from another tattooer in the same area. What usually happens is the design they wanted me to do for them doesn’t have enough room to be placed where they originally wanted it and because of this it screws up the proposal that I agreed to. I do not care if you want to get tattooed from different artists but it makes my job way less complicated if you give me the area and space to tattoo that I agreed to. If you must get tattooed before you see me then please pick a different area of your body.

If you like to tan your skin or you have dark tones in your skin you will have to pick darker colors for your tattoo design. Black and grey designs also work very well for tan and dark skin tones. Avoid designs with light or pastel color tones. Ultraviolet light will rapidly break down a tattoo after a couple years!

The smaller the design the more quickly it will age. It really just depends on your skin type and where you get tattooed. Some designs turn fuzzy in as little as 6 months to a year while others might not break down for 2+ years. Regardless all fine line, micro tattoo designs will loose their sharpness in under 10 years.

Tattoo Request for Robyn at Nomadical Art

All appointments are done at Mothers Tattoo at 645 Main St. In Covington Kentucky

You must be 18 or older to submit a request

Please select and copy the details on this form and paste it to your email. Answer the following questions to help me understand the details of what you would like to do. Please keep your answers descriptive but simple. I would appreciate it if you could refrain from telling me personal stories regarding the meaning of your idea as I’m just really looking to know what the physical details of your idea are. An example of what I’m looking for would be like this, (I want 4 daisies with a honey bee on my left inner forearm in color.) feel free to attach reference photos to your email.

1. What is your first and last name and your phone number?

2. On what part of your body do you want your tattoo and at what size would you like it to be? It’s very helpful if you can take a profile style image of the area you want tattooed. Please try to use the self timer and set it up instead of trying to hold the camera phone and take it.

3. What is your tattoo idea?

4. Do you want a color tattoo or a black and grey tattoo?

5. Are there tattoos near the area that you want me to tattoo that I might have to work around? If yes, please include good clear photographs that show the area centered and the space surrounding the existing tattoo. I generally recommend having someone take this picture for you.

6. Is this a cover-up tattoo? If yes, please include photographs that are visibly clear with good lighting. I will want to see the space around the existing tattoo as well so it’s usually best to have someone take this picture for you.

7. My schedule is weekdays only (Monday to Friday) from 4pm-8pm. This is a temporary schedule for that starts in late May and runs until late August.

What day of the week and time of day would you like to get tattooed?

Please make sure to attach any inspirational photos or reference photos for me to see. I prefer attachments over hyperlinks to other websites and Pinterest pages.

It sometimes takes me a few days to reply but if you don’t hear from me after 7 days please follow up as sometimes emails go to Spam by accident.
